Now that the NBA season is officially back and with the first week of action behind us, we can look forward to some massive rivalries, old and new, surface on mainstream news and one such stint took place during a match between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier today.
In the middle of the third quarter, the 76ers were racing down the court on a fastbreak when there was a big whistle at the other end followed by a quick camera span to Joel Embiid going at it against Karl-Anthony Towns.
Puzzled with what caused the fight to break out, players from both sides rushed to get the two All-Stars away from each other. However it was the 76ers Point Guard Ben Simmons who found himself in the middle of things and did not hesitate from rescuing his teammate from a potential injury.
Grabbing Towns from behind, Simmons got him in a chokehold and there was even a time when the former tried to tap out to get out of the hold too.
It was upon reviewing the whole incident multiple times that the cause of the whole fight was revealed. During the play prior to the aforementioned fastbreak, Embiid tried to go for an aggressive steal out of the hands of Towns but failed which was followed by Towns trapping Joel’s hand which led to the scuffle.
Headlocks, ugly-looking punches and bodies hitting the Wells Fargo Center floor, such as the scenario at Embiid’s homecourt with the crowd booing the Timberwolves Forward as they two were separated and ejected out of the game.
And while suspensions and major fines are about to hit these athletes in the coming days, one thing was clear that Ben Simmons is the kind of guy everyone needs in their lives, who’d come to your rescue without thinking twice about the consequences.
