There are some traditions in the world that people love to follow and then there are traditions like the NBA bringing on singers who come up with the worst rendition of the American national anthem of all time.
Maybe it is the pressure of being unique, given the stature of an event like the All-Star game that the artists end up making a joke out of something has serious and dear to a nation as their anthem.
Ahead of the 2020 edition of the annual exhibition game which was held in Chicago, Illinois this time around, the league gave Chicago legend and singer whose career has spanned over five decades, Chaka Khan, the opportunity to do the honours but it turned out to be horrible and rather disrespectful.
As I said before this has become more of a tradition as it was not for the first time that a singer has absolutely ruined the ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ ahead of an all-star game. Two years ago, it was Fergie who tried her hand at coming up with a unique rendition of the song but ended up on the ‘meme’ section of the internet. Images of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green laughing coyly during her performance became synonymous to it.
And while neither Green nor Curry are a part of this year’s all-star game, the performance by Khan made us wish they were here.
And while the two stars aren’t here to react to the debacle, we have the beloved fandom of the game to share their opinion:
