The world lost one of the greatest NBA players and a brilliant human being in Kobe Bryant when his helicopter crashed last month, while also taking away the lives of his 14-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant and seven others.
People from all over mourned the Los Angeles Lakers legend’s untimely demise in their own personal ways while the locals of the city made themselves a makeshift memorial in front of the Staples Center, and for days visited the venue to pay homage to the lost souls.
Kobe and his daughter were laid to rest in a Southern California cemetery on February 7 but on February 24th, the Lakers have organised an official ceremony for the fans to visit the home of the Lakers and say their final goodbyes.
This day was specifically picked as it reads 2/24 on the calendar, which signifies the jersey numbers of Gianna (2) and the second half of Kobe’s professional career during which he wore (24).
Kobe’s wife and Gianna’s mother, Vanessa Bryant shared an open invite on her Instagram profile:
"#2, #24 #20 years as a Laker and the amount of years Kob and I were together," Vanessa wrote in a caption.
When and Where will it take place?
The memorial is scheduled to take place at Staples at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET).
Who all are attending?
While it is still not confirmed who will speak at the event, thousands of fans from LA and some of the other cities are expected to become a part of the memorial.
While the stadium has the capacity to seat 20,000 people, only some tickets were put on sale which ranged between $24.02 and $224, also as a way to show respect towards the Bryants. Proceeds from ticket sales are being donated to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation.
