Lance Stephenson To Play In China & His Contract Is As Good As The Lakers’ Had Offered Him Last Year

Updated: Jan 17, 2020

Yes, it is true. Former Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard/small forward, Lance Stephenson will be taking his talents overseas to China where he will be playing for a Chinese Basketball Association franchise called the Liaoning Flying Leopards.

The 28-year-old has landed a one-year $4 million contract with China’s Northern division team which won the championship trophy at the end of the 2017-2018 season.

What is rather impressive is the fact that Stephenson’s contract with Liaoning is almost as good as the one he was offered by the Lakers ahead of the 2018-19 season.

Lance had signed a one-year $4.5 million deal with the Lebron James-led side and came off the bench in purple and gold.

During his solitary season with the Lakers, Stephenson scored 7.2 points per game while shooting 42.6% from the floor and 37.1% from beyond the arc.

In the nine years that he has spent in the NBA, Stephenson has jumped seven teams but had the most success with the Indiana Pacers alongside Paul George, the team that drafted him in 2010 as the 40th pick in the second round.
