Watching Aaron Gordon Give Up On Competing In The Dunk Contest Ever Again Is Heartbreaking

If you want to watch some elite-level robbing, you have got to tune in and watch what went down during the 2020 edition of the NBA All-Star Slam Dunk contest as the honour of lifting the trophy was stolen away from the Orlando Magic Forward, Aaron Gordon, once again.

It took Gordon four years to get over the unfair loss to Zach LaVine during the 2016 Slam Dunk contest. This year, while hesitant at first, Gordon finally said ‘yes’ to competing again. Little did he know that fate would strike him where it hurts the most, yet again.

Clearly the best dunker of the evening, Gordon had to duel against Miami Heat’s Derrick Jones Jr. in the final round.

DJJ had himself a decent dunk. He jumped from within one foot of the free throw line, did a windmill with his left hand and slammed it through. It was good, but even Jones Jr. was upset with himself for a couple of reasons: He didn’t jump from the foul-line and two, we have seen LaVine do the same thing FOUR YEARS AGO! He got a score of 48.

Now came Aaron Gordon in the company of Boston Celtics Centre, Tacko Fall who is 7’5’’ tall. Fall kept the ball at the back of his head and Gordon dunked over him. HE DUNKED OVER TACKO FALL. DID I MENTION THAT TACKO IS A 7’5’’ TALL GIANT?!

But the judges did not think twice before giving him a total score of 47.

Everybody in the stadium was shocked. Giannis, Tacko, hell, even Derrick Jones Jr. looked stunned that he got a point more than Gordon.

And while everyone at the judge’s desk did a horrible job, it was Dwyane Wade who surprised me the most. Wade not only gave DJJ’s mundane dunk a perfect 10, he also took away one point from Gordon.

Guess what, that one point caused him the title.

After the event, when Gordon addressed the media, it was as if he was broken.

“It’s a wrap bro, it’s a wrap,” he said. “I feel like I should have two trophies.”
